The model is guessing a neighbour
You say “it should change immediately.” The model may build an optimistic update, or local fake data, or a shorter spinner. All three “change immediately.” Only the first can come back safely on failure.
People with nouns collapse the choice to a point. People without them draw among neighbouring implementations and accept with their eyes. It still looks like vibe coding. The loop is longer, and it stops at “looks right.”
Outsiders borrow manuals the world already wrote
People who do not program have still lived inside a lot of software. They know “cart,” “follow,” “draft.” Those words are already an interface. Pointing at a notes app and saying “only notes and bookmarks” draws a boundary and names the objects.
They also hand over screenshots without embarrassment. Engineers often trust prose; for a model, a picture with a circled button is often harder, in the useful sense, than a paragraph of adjectives.
Acceptance lives on the screen
Outsiders rarely write a spec. They look at this version: is the button there, is the copy right, does it work on a phone. Wrong means this one place. That is closer to the loop vibe coding wants — the artifact is the only source of truth.
Engineers sometimes invert it: they finish the architecture in the thread, and the model has already touched twelve files. Outsiders have no architecture to recite, so they watch the page. Watching the page is a limit. It is also a guardrail.
Smoothness has an edge
Personal sites, menus, forms, lists: the nouns are in the street, and the model knows them. Permissions, money, concurrency, migrations: the nouns live in incident reports. Outsiders can be smooth in the first band. Crossing into the second is not a drop in intelligence. It is a different dictionary.
The post asked how it works at all. The honest sentence: in the band where names are public, by pointing, by pictures, by correcting the running thing; in the band where names belong to incidents, it does not work, until the names are learned. This glossary is for that step.
